Its not a large hotel but has a grand lobby with fountain, a reasonable size (shallow) pool and well kept gardens. It has superfast wireless broadband which means you dont have to retire to your room to check in with the folks back home.
The food at the Taj is great and the evening buffet is a must with a good mix of east-west dishes. I was lucky enough to stay there for the Independance day celebrations when the buffet was a completely Indian affair with a selection of dishes from across India. The restaraunt managers at the Taj take an interest in the clientelle and are pains to make sure your food is just the way you like it. I've watched them work the room and they take the trouble to memorise guests preferences spicey- not too spicey, what you drink, what you like what you don't, and that takes effort. The musicians who play in the Jacaruna restaraunt are spellbinding , a must see while staying at the Taj and rightly deserve a mention here.
If theres a down side to the Taj its the commute in to the city as the traffic in "the big Bad" is impressive at rush hour and if you have an early meeting it pays to start out early. The journey to a clients buisness at Thaltej during the week took around 40-50 mins. That same journey on a Sunday took only 15mins!
As has been stated in other reviews the car hire at the Taj is expensive though its easy to arrange a reaonable rate with one of the many local firms.
One the whole a great hotel with fantastic staff. I'd like to thank them here for the effort and all their help, Thank you!

for business travellers. Has all the facilities and the good thing about it is that it allows for early check-in as I came in at 7 am in the morning from Mumbai.
Room wise is spacious and have a comfy bed with a sofa spacious enough for you to sit back and relax after a hard day work. There is also a Landmark bookshop at the hotel lobby which might be useful to anyone who did not come prepared with a book. There is also a pool in the hotel in which in my 2 night stay there, did not see anyone using it except some pigeons having "a relaxing time" there.
The breakfast spread is limited though the varieties on their a la carte menu looks decent as end up having dinner there on both nights.
On the whole, given such expensive price for hotels in India, this hotel is decent enough at Rs 7800++ with breakfast. By the way, the hotel made mistake and charged me for breakfast for my first night stay there and gave a goodwill discount to the room rates for my 2nd night which is a good gesture. Will definitely stay back at the hotel again.

We thought it would be a 'safe' choice

Having driven for 6 hours to get to Ahmedabad airport from Sassan Gir national park, we chose the Taj for an overnight stop before flying back to Delhi. It

was a 'safe' choice which turned out to be just that. It wasn't up to the high standard of the Taj Lands End, Mumbai but it was fine. Rooms good & clean, restaurant food OK, breakfast buffet good, pool area good. As foreign tourists we were able to buy some alcohol in the hotel shop but since the choice was warm beer or spirits, both of which had to be drunk in our rooms, we passed on that. Oh for a cold glass of Muscadet! I have nothing to compare it to other hotels in Ahmedabad, it didn't have a 'wow factor' but it was fine. One word of warning - not about the hotel. Kingfisher airlines (AKA Jet Lite) out of Ahmedabad airport are a shambles. They have no idea what size of plane will be operating the flight and how many seats will be available. Our party of 4 with confirmed tickets was split 3 & 1 with the one arriving back to Delhi some 7hrs later after transferring to a different airline.
