lovely. We liked all the wood, the view was spectactular and we liked our room which was 1 of 2 rooms sitting on a hill seperated from the hotel a little. The inside of our room was lovely as well. However, that changed quickly. We found the rooms not very clean, we had trouble with ants, roaches and mosquitoes all night. We went to bed around 10:30 and heard our neighbors come in shortly after. The walls are super thin. We could hear their T.V., like it was in our room, we called them twice and asked them to turn it down a little & they turned it up! Also, we could hear their alarm clock and hear what they were saying, almost every word. Needless to say, we didn't sleep. We asked to change rooms and it was done with no problems from the hotel staff. However, the same noisy experience happened in the next room. The food was OK, nothing great to talk about. Staff was nice but they were busy with a big tour group who was persistant, demanding and vocal. We were happy to get out of there and move on with the rest of our holiday.

My wife and I happened to stay in the Orange Village Resort at just the same time as Newyorkanya did - on november 16th,17th and 18th, 2007.
First impression: awful!...ugly

cottages far away from Gangtok, cavernous rooms, dark at 3.30 p.m., empty almost to desolation.
Second impression: clean, quiet, WONDERFUL STAFF..., grouped in cheerful (although always very professional...) parties of 2-4 young girls and boys (as our "colleagues" from New York - whom we didn't meet - say...), always very attent to meet all of one's needs, slowly but carefully and safely.
Food: excellent on the first day, monotonous buffet on the two following days - which was the week end; that's - we believe - why...
Conclusion: if you like to be in the middle of the action, Orange Village Resort is definitely NOT for you. If you think that, after a day of sightseeing, you might enjoy a quiet place, spotless and very well staffed, with good food (not during the week end), and you have a few good books with you....it may be quite OK.

in the city center. But the Orange grew on us mostly because we loved the staff and the rooms were roomy and clean and had great views. Otherwise, the Orange is a textbook case in ugly design and though it was built by a Nepali architect is feels like a Chinese hotel from the nineties. It’s cavernous and on the side of a hill (overlooking some orange groves, hence the name) so one is constantly trekking up and down numerous flights of stairs. The lounge area is huge and ugly and filled with kitschy artwork (check out the animal wall sconces with red lights) hideous furniture and uncomfortable chairs. There are no reading lights or cozy corners. Dinner is a buffet, which got tired after a while. (Soggy roti, anyone?)
What we liked was that it was quiet and peaceful compared to Gangtok center and the staff were adorable. Many of them are young trainees from nearby towns and they wear their school uniforms to work. It takes ages to get things done but when they do turn up, they come to the room in groups of 2-4 and are very giggly, say ma’am all the time and triple check to make sure everything is ok. We thought they were lovely. Also, we had some work emails to do and the front desk staff and manager were extremely helpful in getting their computer connected and even let us use the printer in the managers’ office.
