Its a basic but sufficient hotel and it is close to the Gandola cable car station. There was a mild eartquake soon after we checked in. The staff assured us that this was quite common here and there was nothing to worry. They proved to be right. The rooms are decent and so is the restaurant. There are centrally operated heaters and blanket heaters in the bed. The bed heaters can be used but the room heaters were shut and we were informed that they are used only during the winters. The snowcast mountain view from the hotel is lovely. You can hire heavy woollen dresses and gumboots from a shop which is 50mts from the hotel. The management of the gandola cable car is horrble since frequently guest bypass the que system. The view from the 2nd level of the Gandola cable car is fantiastic at about 13K + feet. Its difficult spending a lot of time there so you can come down to the 1st level and then enjoy your rides there, like sledge, bikeski, etc..

Stayed here as a couple in Apr '13.
The hotel has a very good location - quite close to the Gandola. This way you dont spend a lot of time travelling to the office. Although this means that the main market of Gulmarg is far from the hotel and will require you to walk a little.
We stayed in front facing room on the 2nd floor which was quite good. The rooms here are not very large but are reasonably sized and cozy. Rooms have electric heating blankets that work quite well. Some rooms do not have electric boilers and are connected directly to the hotels main boiler. In such rooms, the hot water is only available at specific times. Try to get a room which has its own boiler in the bathroom. This way you get 24hrs running hot water. Since we went in the summers, the central heating of the hotel was turned off we were told. However, you can get a portable room heater upon request that is good enough.
The only problems we found with the rooms were that they all had a wooden frame in front of the concrete walls which was actually quite old and had developed small holes. Also the rooms could have been a little more cleaner than they were.
The staff was helpful and efficient including the front desk manager who was also attentive. However, the all staff (except the manager of course) including the bell boys, waiters, room service etc were always asking for tips. Even if you did tip them, they would ask for more. I think this is seriously affecting the image of the hotel as a 4-star property and the management should do something about this. I understand that tipping is common place in hotels everywhere but blatantly asking for tips is not helping the reputation of this hotel.
We had breakfast and dinners in the hotel. The food was quite good. They had in-room dining facilities which was free of charge so we enjoyed our food in our own room. The breakfast was buffet and had a decent spread although the quality could have been better. The a-la-carte dinner was good.
All in all some minor issues but good hotel to stay in.

Excellent staff, nice hotel with amazing view and very near to Gondola. Special attention given by Mr Malik ( hotel manager). Food was also nice and rooms are very clean and well heated. Room service is also good and the staff is very supportive.

I went to Gulmarg with my family on a leisure trip. The overall stay was enjoyed by my family and myself. During winters this is one of the best locations in Gulmarg, almost next to Gondola. Hotel stay was very comfortable. Bathroom was not very clean though and we hardly got any warm water although the geyser was working. The staff and management were very polite and helpful and ready to help. Food was great. Next time when I go to Gulmarg I would most likely sta in this hotel again.

We were given a room which overlooks a debris dump (within and outside the hotel premises). Though a alternate room was available we were told that the hotel was full. Only on very strong insistence we were shifted to the Maharajah Suite the NEXT day.

Good stay at the Hotel Hilltop. It is the closest to the gondola, so cant be beaten for location. Electricity supply is erratic to Gulmarg, but the hotels backup supply was sufficient. Hot water worked every time. Heating was good, which included central heating, a portable electric heater in the room and electric blankets.

The interior of room was undesirable. I mean location was good but room was not worth as price is high. Staff was not good. narrow gallery towards your room may scare you. Breakfast was not good too..
