We were booked into this hotel as part of our Golden Triangle tour under a 'luxury' catergory. This hotel was appalling; the whole place is very old and outdated.

Our room was digusting - the towels were brown, room smelt of smoke and mothballs (they had placed mothballs in the drain!), bathroom was dirty and very old, the hairdryer was plugged into a socket which was hanging out of the wall, the water from the shower came oiut brown, the air conditioning was not cold enough], the breakfast was below average, and we just wanted to get out of there as early as we could.
We have left the hotel our feedback but heard nothing back!

Not a Five Star Hotel

the foyer we realsied that their idea of five star and the standard of five star hotels we had already experienced in India (Jai Mahal Palace in Jaipur and Claridges in Delhi) were not the same thing.
The room smelled of dampness/airfreshner/disinfectant and had water stains on the walls. The room was a twin, not a double, and was not the superior room for which we paid.
We complained and after a hour or so our tour operator rang us back (not the front desk), and inquired what the problem was. he was patient while we explained (again!) and spoke to the hotel on our behalf. After 10 minutes I met the duty manager and was shown to another room, which was more acceptable.
The Gardens and Pool area were adequate, but very undeveloped compared to other properties. The Clarks Shiraz gets a lot of trade from large organised tours and from people coming specifically for the Taj, but they do not seem to have upgraded their facilities to match the standard of a real five star.
