We booked this hotel through HostelBookers.com and we received good directions, however this is very hard to find. We booked a taxi to Rabindra Sarobar metro station and the directions

provided were OK from there. Upon arrival the first thing that struck me was the level of English spoken by the manager who was very helpful if a little freaky.
Our room was on the ground floor next to the reception and was generally OK (nice modern decor) but it smelt of damp (and drains in the bathroom), was cold and had no window.
The hotel has no restaurant but the hotel staff will go and order you food from near-by local food establishments. They do however offer a choice of breakfasts (Indian style or eggs) but did not have eggs when we stayed there due to bird flu.
The staff are really helpful and did go out of their way to help. The only problem I really had, apart from having food poisoning when I was there, was a group of people playing hardcore German Techno at 2am and slamming doors.
Overall I would recommend as this was the best budget/traveller hotel we found in Kolkata.

Hard to find! In a quiet lower middle class neighborhood one block from busy Chowringhee/Nehru street. Small, basic inn, clean and functional. We were in room 101,

a very dark room with one small deep set window overlooking the courtyard. Does not encourage one to linger, get out and explore Kolkata! Good bed, TV and clean bathroom. Staff very helpful.

Kolkata is a difficult city for hotels. This place is a little gem. On first sight not impressive but the rooms are really excellent. The breakfast is nothing wonderful as

they do not have a restuarant.
However just round the corner in the Homeland mall is an excellent cafe with (for India) good coffee.
The area is much quieter than much of chaotic Kolkata and easy and interesting to walk round at night. One or two good shops close by and Trends in Elgin Road is an excellent hairdressers and beauty shop. We walked to Queen Victoria memorial and the Cathedral. Taxi easy to markets and Suder Street area.
Best Inn was good at getting taxis to Railway Station and Airport.
We booked through Hostel Bookers and they provided detailed directions to find the Hotel - this was needed as we had to steer the taxi drivers to it.
