Times. It was only about $150.00 a night, breakfast included. $100 less than the Taj President and much better situated for tourist spots. Very cool and sleek, only 3 stories, staff pleasant but not overly so. The room was immaculate, beautiful bath and shower, TV not too great. As soon as you step out you are in a very busy area with so much to see! This is for travelers who like to see everyday life rather than resorts or luxury hotels. Be sure to book a trip to Dhaaravi with reality tours, it will change your mind about "slums" when you see how industrious the residents are.
If you want to just absorb the passing crowd this is the place. You can easily walk to the Gateway of India, tourist center for Bombay. It is very noisy because everyone drives with their horns blaring; you soon get used to just walking across the street trusting the drivers not to kill you. For more or less western food, there is a Barista not far from the hotel, also a MacDonalds (I didn't try it) and a restaurant called Indigo, medium priced, western dishes. I just bought fruit and wrapped snacks on the street. Adventurous types can try "pan" betel nuts wrapped in leaves for a mild high. Dont miss the Contemporary Art Museum, and a private art gallery next to Prince of Wales museum (skip that one, overpriced and most of you have seen similar works) I prefer contemporary artists. Try to negotiate hotel price.

My friend and I decided to go midrange with our Mumbai hotel choice, thinking the price should at least get us something that was bearable and clean.... we were shocked

to find what should be classed a 4* hotel. The rooms are immaculate, and enormous by Indian standards. The bathrooms were gorgeous with bath AND shower. Upgrade to deluxe room for the extra $10 or whatever it is... it IS worth it.
We could not recommend this place highly enough. Walk 2 mins to the gateway of india and the ferry to Elephanta Island, and the Beautiful Taj Hotel that you should at least have tea and scones at for the experience.
Excellent complimentary breakfast, with food that is safe for sensitive stomachs.
