This Hotel is everything that has been written about on TripAdvisor… a fantastic location right on the Grande Canal opposite the main train station; very central to walk anywhere you

need to be (the walk to San Marco Square is about 40 mins, but if this is too far - or if it is too hot! - you can always take a "bus" - canal public transport); and beautiful rooms of a VERY high standard.
But the reason I felt compelled to write this Hotel review was because of the staff. We have never experienced such friendly, helpful, wonderful staff before (and we have stayed in a lot of fine Hotel's). The girls here really went out of their way for us on more than one occasion. I always worry if I mention names that someone will feel left out, but these girls deserve naming... (apologies to them if I have misspelt their names!)
Roxana - when we checked in she spent over 5 minutes explaining everything and giving us great advice and maps on the area. You could tell she was busy and yet she gave us her undivided attention. Then she pops up at breakfast each morning. On the 2nd morning I asked for an Omelette. She brought me the most amazing Omelette I have ever tasted! When I asked her to thank the chef, she explained she had made it! Even better she makes great double expresso macchiato's! Every morning she would recognise us and ask if I would like my macchiato and my Omelette. Roxana is Romanian but her Italiano and English are excellent! She is so friendly and helpful on anything you want to ask. I observed her with other patrons too and she is very kind and patient.
Giovanna - during the last 2 days of our stay, we met Giovanna on the front desk which doubles as Concierge - we asked Giovanna to recommend and book dinner reservations for us, both nights the arrangements and restaurants were very good. Giovanna is so eager to please, she even offered us a late check out as were transferring late in the day. Delightful to deal with and the Hotel is lucky to have someone with such a wonderful attitude on the front desk.
Anca - on our first afternoon I quietly mentioned to Anca that I was trying to arrange a Gondola to surprise my wife, and that I wanted to include a Tenor singer and a guitarist. Anca arranged the whole surprise for me for the following evening. The Gondolier pulled up alongside the small Hotel jetty at 7:30pm and away we went along with our musicians entertaining everyone we glided past. (I highly recommend this to anyone in love! Just magic!). Anca also arranged for the Gondolier to drop us off in a small canal nearby our restaurant where she had booked us in for a quiet, romantic dinner together. Perfecto! Anca arranged another meal for us the next night which was equally as good. Thank you so much.
Natasha - the girl from Moscow with a big smile who must have big muscles (but appears to have none as she is so little) as the poor girl get used as a porter all the time! This is one complaint I will make about the Hotel, where is the male help? The Porters? When we checked in we met Alesio who helped us with our bags, and then later for drinks late at night on the jetty - he is apparently knew, but we found him very helpful and friendly. But he seems to be the only male around and then only sometimes. The girls here seem to have to lug bags around and it doesn't seem right. Natasha helped us with our bags after night one (we were upgraded to the suit for the first night then moved) and I would not let her carry anything. She was more than willing though and always so smily. She goes about her work happy and sings away to her self. Her Italiano and english is also fantastic. On checkout morning they were inundated with early checkins coming from a cruse ship. There were bags everywhere and Natasha was expected to lift them. I am sure Hotel Management could afford an extra male porter for these eat times?
And last, but not least, young Cecilia, only 17 or 18, learning the ropes, such a beautiful smile and attitude towards work and life. So friendly and earnest. Cecilia will go a long way in life it is clear to see. Thank you for your welcome when we arrived, and your farewell as we departed.
There were other staff as well who were all very courteous. But the staff I have mentioned above really deserve the accolades I am giving them. I only hope they get more help with bags when there are busy times! And that Hotel management realises how wonderful they are. If we all had staff at the front of our businesses like these we would be all very profitable! Thank you to all the girls fro helping make our stay even more special! (and Alesio!) Ciao!!
The room we booked was a Prestige with Canal views. I understand there are some rooms that talk about canal views but they are next door outside the Hotel with side window views of the canal (so make sure you know what you are booking). If you can, request Pietro Langi (spelling?). It has a Canal view from the bedroom out the front, and a 4 post bed. It's location is on the 1st floor (lift or 3 sec walk up easy stairs) where you can lay in bed and watch the world go by on the canal. Just superb!
Hopefully one day we will be back. It is easy to see how this Hotel picked up the Trip Advisor award 3 years in a row!

Venice Charm

We stayed at the Hotel Canal Grande for three nights in June. Its location, across from the train station and on the Grand Canal, was ideal. We had

booked a Prestige Double Room, but when the porter took us to it, he could see we were not happy; it was quite small. Immediately he took us to another room, much larger and with a separate sitting area and a small balcony, and we loved it. There was no increase in price; he said he wanted us to "be happy." The location of the hotel is ideal, with its own vaporetto stop, and near several excellent restaurants. The breakfast room is lovely, overlooking the canal, with a patio where you can eat breakfast or have drinks. The excellent staff was friendly and helpful in every way. I highly recommend the Hotel Canal Grande to all visitors to Venice.

all the emails).
Her knowledge of the area and multi tasking was superb.
Gave us a few local hide away bars etc.
room is fantastic , little touches and soooo clean . Yes we new it would be smaller than most but not a problem.
Breakfast very good , plenty to choose from and nice to mingle with the Yanks !
Nice little balcony on canal side to chill after a days walking . Very reasonable prices too.
Easily one of the best hotels we have stopped in during our travels.
Can't recommend it any higher .
Well done all at the hotel .

Close to everything!

eager to please. The only thing to beware of is the free taxi to Murano. One of the couples we met said that the pressure to purchase was intimidating and the you are taken only to a glass factory and are not permitted to visit anywhere else on the visit. Take the Vaporetto! It was a great day out with no pressure.

Great location, poor rooms

below par in terms of cleanliness, amenities and daily fresh towels. The king bed, actually 2 twins attached, were hard and the 3 flat pillows provided an uncomfortable nights rest. We did enjoy the buffet breakfast and early morning coffee but had to rise early to be seated at one of the 4 outside tiny tables. Wi-Fi reception was intermittent and TV programming was limited. The attendants behind the desk were always helpful and friendly which made our stay more tolerable.
