Most ecomm websites route the payment page to a banking gateway, thus the CC nos are not even entered in the ecomm sites themselves. 1. Why hasnt cleartip followed the safer method of routing the payment page to a gateway ? Thanks |

Anjanesh—if you choose to pay by debit card, we route you to the bank’s page, while for credit cards there is no need to do so. Our payment page is fully secured with 128 bit encryption, you can check our security certificate with your browser. We do not store any of your card information. |

“Our payment page is fully secured with 128 bit encryption, you can check our security certificate with your browser.” I’ll agree with that, but my question was, why didnt you let the bank handle the CC payments too ? Isnt it much safer from a user-perspective, knowing that we’re entering the CC nos at a bank’s page & not at the ecomm site’s page ? |

Anjanesh—the bank uses the same encryption methods we use, so it’s not really any “safer” to use the bank’s site. In addition to processing your card payment, our system also needs to block inventory, issue confirmations, messages etc. It’s easier to coordinate the various bits of information in a timely fashion when we have more control over the application. If you choose to pay using an HDFC or Axis Bank debit card, we do send you to the bank’s site to input your information. |

Hi Hrush…firstly i wanna really congratulate you on coming up with a website like Cleartrip…. i find it the most convenient among all the travel websites in India….and I have been using it regulary and suggesting it to everyone around. I want to ask how the online payment at cleartrip happens. I mean as you mentioned you have your own SSL and do not require to go to a bank page. Which payment gateway you use?? I am a bit curious about how the online payments are processed at cleartrip.com…..this is purely for my personal knowledge. Thank you. Regards, Saurabh |

Saurabh—thanks for the compliment. Cleartrip has a standalone payment system which handles all of our payment processing. The payment system uses 5 different payment gateways to process credit and debit card payments. We recently started supporting net banking payments as well with support for ICICI and HDFC at the moment. We expect to support a much greater number of banks in the near future. In case of debit card and net banking payments, we do redirect you to the bank’s page for payments. |
