While the village itself is an attraction, Göreme National Park is really quite an extraterrestrial experience. Set amid the surreal cones and pinnacles of volcanic tuff are the crumbling ruins of pigeon houses and ancient rock-cut churches. There are plenty of valleys to explore, each with a unique configuration of structures and eroded 'fairy chimneys'.
