Sapo National Park covers 1308 sq km (505 sq mi) of rare West African primary rainforest and supports forest elephants, pygmy hippos and chimpanzees. Rampant logging and the bushmeat trade are threats to the park's fauna and flora, but the Society for the Conservation of Nature of Liberia, based at Monrovia Zoo, runs a variety of conservation projects in Sapo.
