The 906 sq km (350 sq mi) Tibesti mountain range sits across Chad's northern border with Lybia. Seven large volcanoes dominate the skyline, the largest of them being Emi Koussi, a dormant volcano rising 3414m (11200ft) above sea level, making it the tallest point in the Sahara desert.
However, inaccessibility, land mines and local tensions make a current visit to the Tibesti mountains out of the question.
